EM Series

The Automatän Model EM litho label laminator applies Electrostatic Method technology in its adhesive application process. Automatän has a patent pending on this process application. An economical labeler, the Model EM's design offers the opportunity to employ the electrostatic method for fast, easy set ups in labeling over a wide range of board and label sizes.

The Automatän Model EM Label Laminator has been designed and configured as a versatile machine to be used in a variety of applications. Now, the Model EM offers advanced applications for digital and web labeling with the Web Label Module.

WEB LABEL MODULE

em series web label module

The Automatän Model EM Label Laminator has been designed and configured as a versatile machine to be used in a variety of applications. Now, the Model EM offers advanced applications for digital and web labeling with the Web Label Module.

Only available with the EM Series, the Automatän Web Label Module unwinds, de-curls, cuts and mounts digital preprint, and other web materials, from a roll form. The module is positioned between the label transfer section and laminating section. It includes paper roll support, decurling rolls, steel and rubber nip rolls, air activated cut off knife, and programming interface.

Designed for short runs and sample production, this system can be easily inserted into the Model EM, allowing for complete versatility and quick changeovers. There is minimal material handling and no digital print speed restrictions.

ROI Best Practices

Pinner Bar Maintenance
(EM Series Serial # 1-52)

Keeping your laminator in top shape, the pinner bar (electrostatic bar) should be considered an important area as part of your weekly maintenance checks. A clean pinner bar provides maximum lay down and complete glue coverage while allowing you to use no more adhesive than what is needed.

Simply take the pinner bar and guard off the machine and use a short bristle brush to brush the pins, lengthwise down the bar, on the bar as well as thoroughly scrub the inside of the guard. Isopropyl Alcohol can be used to scrub if needed. Be sure to air dry completely before the bar is put back on the Laminator. Also check the sharpness of the pins because if they are not sharp, you are not getting maximum performance from the bar.

Label Stack Height
(EM Series Serial # 1-52)

When setting the height of the label table, make sure that there is a gap of at least 3/16" between the label stack and the stripping fingers. If you do this you feed far less double labels as the stripping fingers can do their job correctly.

Conveyor Belts

Downstackers are often overlooked while performing routine machine maintenance. If you are having issues with boards slipping, it could be due to coatings getting transferred to the conveyor belts, and over time the belts could lose traction. From time to time, use a damp sponge and wipe down each belt. You will notice a difference and avoid lost production time.

Protect your Touch Screen

Laminators that utilize touch screen interactivity and interface to run and control every aspect of the machine is prone to abuse. The touch screen can be damaged by deep scratches. Never use a pen or sharp object to activate on screen buttons. Make sure your touch screen is protected. Contact Automatän to learn more ways to protect your computer screen.

Proper Label Preparation

Make sure to properly prepare the stack of labels you plan on feeding through your Automatän labeler. Tossing them from a shipment stack onto a squaring jig, onto the label feeding table is a sure recipe for double feeds and other running problems. Proper stripping, aerating and fluffing of the label stack makes for longer runs without problems.

“We are so pleased that we installed the Automatän Litho Labeler as it gives us a massive advantage on the POS market now.”

“We have had an Automatän EM laminator for almost 2 years and we could not be happier with the machine and the people at Automatän. We have been a long time customer of Automatän due to the fact that we used to own a high speed model for more than 5 years in the 1990's. We feel that their machine has been a vital part of our growth and success in the 1990's through today. Ed LeVine has been our contact for the EM and he has been very helpful from the time we bought the machine, during the installation, and through the post-install support. Ed is always happy to help with parts and general questions. I am very happy with the decision to purchase the EM and would be happy to give a personal reference.”

“First, Brian Foley has been great working with. If he didn’t know an answer he would get back with me at the exact time when he said he would every time. Next, the people doing the installation were topnotch. I couldn’t have asked for a cleaner/timelier installation. As far as the EM itself: (EVERY ORDER runs wide open, 3000pcs for regular feed, 1500pcs for skip feed and 750 for double skip feed, EVERY ORDER) With the double skip-feed capability, this machine has taken some of our large labeled boxes from a hand labor process at 80 pcs per hour to running them on the EM at 750 pcs per hour. This feature has opened up markets for us. Within 2 months of installation an opportunity came to us that without this machine we would’ve had to turn down or asked to try to redesign what the customer wanted. We got the order and the 52” X 73” label ran flawlessly. We have a 4050 and liked it too, until we saw how easy the setup is on the EM. Without the mat, using the suction cups has cut the setup time from 30 min to less than 10 min. The double feed option is also a great feature. Having some boxes with 2 labels has cut the runtime in half. The new feeder on the EM is a great improvement over the older style. The fact that you don’t need to try to control a shingle has simplified the process and reduces waste. Not wanting to sound like a commercial but everyone really likes this machine, from our plant scheduler not having to worry about when or if 4 hand operations will get an order done, to the crews who love the ease of the setup and running, the members of management at Bennett Packaging know we’ve made the correct choice in the new EM.”
